Youth League Information
The SIHL youth league is a recreation league focused on teaching sportsmanship, hockey skills, clean play and team unity. All of our coaches are volunteer's and are committed to providing a fun, educational, hockey experience to all the players no matter their skill level. The league provides 2 referee's and 1 scorekeeper for every game.
Here are the youth league schedules for the 2011-2012 season.
Hockey Swap
SIHL has donated equipment that it makes available to any player who needs it. All we ask is that equipment is returned when the player is finished with it. The euipment is first come, first served.
Age Division Information
8 and Under
The 8 and Under division is purely instructional. Skaters are taught how to skate forwards and backwards and some of the basic fundamentals of the game such as stick handling, passing and shooting. They will also be taught basic rules and what the different parts of the rink are and how they are used in games. Scrimmage games will be played without referee's or score keepers.
10 and Under thru 17 and Under
The youth league is a recreational but competitive league. The league is divided into 4 divisions, 10 and Under (10U), 12 and Under (12U), 14 and Under (14U) and 17 and Under (17U). A players age per USARS rule is determined by their age on December 31st at the end of the previous year. For example if your child will be 12 years old on December 31st of 2011 they would play in the 12U division for the SIHL 2011-2012 season regardless of when they turn 13 in 2012. Each team will get 1 practice and 1-2 games per week. Each game will have 2 referee's and a scorekeeper. Statistics for each game and player will be kept and posted on this website and in the display case at the rink (hanging on the east end of the bleachers).
